Flea Markets

All year


Did you know that the second largest flea market, after Saint-Ouen, is held in Metz once or twice every month? The Metz flea market, grouping 18 markets over 15,000 to 20,000 m², attracts over 150,000 visitors each year. Today, this market is the largest flea market in the East of France, the absolute must-see location for enthusiasts of second-hand objects.

Summer Book Fair

April


For almost twenty years, the Summer Book Fair has been an important date in the Metz cultural diary, and an event of national importance. For three days, under a huge 1,700 m² tent transformed into a giant bookshop, book-lovers can chat with their favourite authors on the subject of literature and, of course, have their purchases autographed.

Metiz’Art Festival

May


This festival brings together French artists from the worlds of rock, reggae and techno music. Metiz’Art is a multi-cultural festival which, year after year, satisfies even the most eclectic of tastes. Stretching from the lake to Metz town centre, the festival also offers a number of street animations and concerts in bars across the city.

L'Eté Magique (Summer of Magic)

July - August


Celebrations at every street corner, on the water, in the gardens, in public squares… Such are the pleasures inhabitants and visitors to Metz can look forward to during July and August with the Metz en Fête programme. Perfect weather to enjoy the welcoming atmosphere, filling the city with the sound of concerts, shows and performances as well numerous activities organised for the event.

The spirit of this event is to provide, at the instigation of the city authorities, free and open air events, diversity and quality of culture, paying particular attention to include a number of local artists. A galaxy of entertainment where all forms of street performance mix with circus acts, dance and cinema, to the sound of many musical styles.

Water and music festival

July - August


On Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and on the eve of public holidays, you can discover the wonderful Water and Music festival. Water and Lights performances dance to the rythm of the music, transporting you to another world.

Acanthes Festival

July


The Acanthes Festival organises workshops for composers who wish to present a new instrumental piece of work. For the duration of rehearsals, they can take advantage of the experience and advice offered by the teaching group at Acanthes.

Grande Braderie (second-hand market)

August


Every year, one Wednesday in August, shop-keepers from the city centre sell their stock at special low prices. Don’t miss it for real bargains!

Mirabelle plum Festival

End of August


Each year since 1947, the Mirabelle plum festival attracts thousands of visitors to the Lorraine capital to close the summer festivities of the Metz en Fête programme. These celebrations usually take place after 15th August and involve street entertainment, concerts, balls, a mirabelle market, craft market, firework display, a parade and the election of the Mirabelle Queen.

Mondial Air Ballons

Every 2 years
End July - beg. August


At only 30 km from Metz, Mondial Air Ballons is one of the greatest international meetings of balloons, with more than 800 balloons.
