Flea Markets
All year
Did you know that the second largest flea market, after Saint-Ouen, is held in Metz once or twice every month? The Metz flea market, grouping 18 markets over 15,000 to 20,000 m², attracts over 150,000 visitors each year. Today, this market is the largest flea market in the East of France, the absolute must-see location for enthusiasts of second-hand objects.

Montgolfiades (hot air balloons)
Beginning of September
Over the years, the Montgolfiades of Metz have become one of the most prestigious hot air balloon events in France. This grand assembly of hot air balloons, an unmissable date at the end of the summer, brings together approximately 10,000 enthusiasts each year.


Foire à la brocante Outre-Seille (second-hand fair)
September
The second-hand fair at Outre-Seille is a very popular meeting for second-hand goods dealers and is held in a charming and picturesque setting.
Moselle Open
September
This week-long competition gathers some of the best tennis players in the world (Gaël Monfils, Richard Gasquet, Joe Wilfried Tsonga, Tommy Robredo, Novak Djokovic, Nikolaï Davydenko, etc.). Part of the ATP calendar for the past eight years, the Metz meeting has proved itself to be one of the major events in international tennis. Each year, it puts on a great show on the centre court at the Arènes sports arena.

International Fair of Metz
End Sept. – beginning Oct.
The International Fair of Metz is a major meeting which takes place each autumn, uniting exhibitors from twenty different sectors of activity under one 55,000 m² space. Each year, the event attracts over 200,000 visitors.

November

Christmas Markets
End Nov. – end Dec.
In Metz, the Christmas market held in the heart of the historic quarter is one of the end-of-year shopping events in Lorraine definitely not to be missed. During the month of December, the historic city centre is transformed into a village with over 80 pine wood chalets of different colours and a crèche. A magical, marvellous location which attracts many visitors with its fairy-like and friendly atmosphere, its Christmas decorations, Father Christmas, carols, Christmas music, mulled wine and much more.


Lighted walk
December
Each year, one Saturday in December, more than 10,000 walkers take to the roads of Metz to discover the lighted monuments and the Christmas markets. The 10km-long circuit, which has been organised since 1993, assembles walkers from France and from Europe (Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, the Netherlands amongst others) all eager to join in the friendly, warm atmosphere of this event.

Saint-Nicolas Procession
December
As Christmas approaches and the Christmas Market is set up in Metz, tradition dictates that the good Saint Nicolas will come at the beginning of December to reward the well-behaved children by giving them sweets and other treats, while the evil Père Fouettard deals with those who have been naughty.
CREATIVA and the Chocolate Fair
February
Since it was created in February 2003, CREATIVA has become the benchmark exhibition for the Creative Hobbies of Eastern France. The exhibition gathers 160 exhibitors in an 8,000 m² hall, all of them specialists in creative hobbies. CREATIVA attracts almost 35,000 visitors each year. Workshops are set up for the duration of the fair for beginners or those wishing to improve their skills in one of the 70 techniques represented. Let’s not forget the Chocolate Fair, where numerous chocolate-makers demonstrate their skills.
